About
We will meet at the visitor center parking lot and hike the white trail at Sweetwater Creek State Park. The first half of this loop trail follows Sweetwater Creek, offering beautiful views of the creek and of the New Manchester mill ruins. The trail then turns away from the creek, following Jack's Branch to Jack's Lake, before continuing through a former farming community, returning to the visitor center. We will hike at a pace of about 2.5-2.8 mph, completing our five-mile hike in about two hours. After returning to the parking lot we will move our cars to the boat ramp parking lot where we will unload the boats and enjoy an easy paddle under the road and into the marsh area beyond. Late in the day we may see some birds. We will return the way we came. The paddle is on the George H Sparks Reservoir so no swimming is not allowed but if we are feeling hot after our hike we may do some splashing. The culvert under the road can have spiders so you may want a hat. Please note that Sweetwater Creek requires a $10 Daily Park Pass or an Annual State Park Pass. Bathrooms are available near the parking lot. We will meet in the parking lot near the sidewalk to the Interpretive Center. We will start the hike promptly at 4:30 pm, so please arrive early to meet everyone before the adventure. Also, please allow extra time if you need to purchase a parking pass or use the bathroom. If you are trying to complete the 12 Paddles in 12 Months in 12 State Parks and missed the Sweetwater paddle in January - this trip would qualify! And a Happy Father's Dad to all of our AOC dads!
