Beginner Bird Walk — Focus on Basics Leader: Kevin O'Toole Day of Leader Contact: (404) 451-3092 (text in advance if you need to borrow binoculars) Location: Murphey Candler Park, 1636 W Nancy Creek Dr NE, Brookhaven, GA 30319 Google Maps Link: Murphey Candler Park GPS coordinates: 33.90935734144555, -84.3255001536016 Distance: 2 miles RAIN OR SHINE! We will be able to find birds in light rain, for sure. A friendly, slow-paced beginner walk emphasizing true birding basics. Regulars are welcome, but we’ll spend time teaching identification fundamentals, optics use, and listening for bird calls. Beginners: please download the Merlin Bird ID app before the walk if you don’t already have it. This walk is suitable for adults and older teenagers. It is not suitable for children under 14. Please do not bring your dog. Good for beginners overall, but some steep sections and uneven surfaces with exposed roots. Trails can be muddy/slippery after rain — wear appropriate footwear. Restrooms at the SE and SW corners of the park near the baseball fields. Birding Focus: Year‑round locals for beginner learning — Chickadees, Bluebirds, Crows, and other common species. We may see some uncommon birds, but the emphasis is on beginner-friendly species and skills. Check here for the bird list before and after the walk: https://ebird.org/hotspot/L2095268/bird-list Text Kevin your eBird ID and he will share the list with you Directions and Parking: From I-285 on the north side of Atlanta, take Exit 29. Go south on Ashford Dunwoody Rd. about 0.95 mile, then turn left onto W. Nancy Creek Dr. NE. Drive to 1st large parking on SW corner of lake. 1636 West Nancy Creek Dr (approximate address - corner of Candler Lake West NE and West Nancy Creek Dr NE) Please leave the first two rows of parking near the road empty for the "Challenger" baseball teams who need closer access and more space. This is adult/general outdoor community inventory from Birds Georgia; it is not modeled as kids, storytime, or festival child programming.
