About

In a world that glorifies busyness, restorative yoga is a radical act. This training with Lisa Rolf invites you to go beyond the basics and become a teacher who truly understands the why behind the rest — the science, the philosophy, the art of creating a container where students can fully let go. This training equips you with everything you need to confidently design and lead a deep, nourishing restorative yoga practice. Whether you're an experienced teacher looking to expand your offerings or a newer teacher called to the slower path, you'll leave with a thorough understanding of the tools, language, and intention that make restorative yoga transformative — not just relaxing. What you'll learn: You'll explore the history and lineage of restorative yoga, from B.K.S. Iyengar's therapeutic innovations to Lasater's formalization of the practice as a complete system for nervous system healing. We'll ground the work in understanding the nervous system, so you understand what's actually happening in a student's body and nervous system — and how your role as a teacher directly shapes that experience. You'll learn how to build a class from the ground up: sequencing through all four directions of the spine, selecting and layering props, structuring the arc of a class, and choosing themes that give your teaching depth and intention. We'll take deep dives into key restorative shapes, exploring variations and use of props so you can meet every student where they are. You'll develop your cueing voice, shifting from action-based to sensation-based language, and practice trauma-sensitive, consent-forward communication that signals safety to your students from the moment they walk in the room. We'll also explore rest as a justice issue. Drawing on the work of Octavia Raheem (Pause, Rest, Be) and Dr. Gail Parker (Restorative Yoga for Ethnic and Race-Based Stress and Trauma), you'll examine how identity, culture, and lived experience shape a student's relationship to stillness — and how to create a class that is genuinely welcoming, inclusive, and healing for all bodies. The training includes: The foundations of restorative yoga: history, philosophy, and nervous system science Comprehensive prop use — including home substitutions and accessibility modifications Pose deep dives with variations and sequencing guidance Trauma-informed, consent-based cueing and adjustments Class structure, theming, and sequencing frameworks Guided reading and discussion A teaching practicum and personalized feedback You'll finish this training not just knowing how to teach restorative yoga — but understanding, on a bone-deep level, why it matters. And that's what makes the difference between a class that's simply quiet and one that truly changes someone. Spots are limited. Come ready to rest, reflect, and grow.
